Distillation is a process used widely in the laboratory or in wider working environments for separating or purifying liquids or liquid mixtures based on the different boiling points of individual components.
Distillation Applications:
• Separation and purification of miscible liquid mixtures in organic chemistry
• Drying of solid residues and/or solvent removal
• Fractional distillation of liquids from polymers and petroleum products
• Removal of particulates or other solid contaminants
• As part of a water purification system for production of distilled water for laboratory use
• Specialist steam distillation-based applications such as Kjeldahl analysis of nitrogen and proteins in food, beverage, or environmental samples
What Types of Distillation Equipment Are Available?
Conventional distillation apparatus, typically comprising individual, jointed borosilicate glassware components assembled by the user (depending upon the application), using appropriate clamps, stands, and supports. Most conventional distillation assemblies combine a round-bottomed distilling flask to contain and heat the liquid(s) that require purification, fitted with a stoppered or jointed neck to which is attached a downward-sloping, inclined side-arm for connection to a condensing unit to cool the heated vapors back down to their liquid state. Heating mantles are the preferred heat source for improved temperature control. These conventional distillation units are also available supplied complete and ready-assembled for added convenience and ease of use.
Specialized automated distillation equipment, notably units designed for the determination of volatile acidity and alcoholic strength by volume in wines, musts, and alcoholic beverages, and units designed for Kjeldahl nitrogen or protein determinations.

Clamp, Two-Prong Extension, Large, Single Adjust, 9in OAL. Nickel-plated zinc alloy clamp has high tensile strength and corrosion resistance. Fully enclosed stainless steel springs provide smooth operation. Two-prong clamps are available in single and dual adjustment. The medium clamp has a 1 1/2¿ (38mm) maximum grip size with a 1/2¿ (13mm) O.D. extension arm. The large clamp has a 2 1/2¿ (64mm) maximum grip size with a 5/8¿ (16mm) O.D. extension arm. Complete with removable vinyl and fiberglass sleeve covers.

500mL Reaction Vessel, Jacketed, 100mm Schott O-Ring Flange, GL-14 Inlet/Outlet, CG-911-A-10 Drain Valve. Similar to CG1924, but with our CG911A 0-14mm sidearm valve. All valves are designed to seal flush with the bottom of the flask avoiding the dead space normally associated with stopcock drains. This feature permits total mixing & draining of the contents of the reactor. The CG510 is recommended for solution based reactions while the CG911A and CG511 are recommended for reactions containing solids. Reaction vessel is constructed with a flange having a groove formed in the sealing surface of the flange. Flange is also ground to permit a greased seal with any lids CG1940 through CG1946. Supplied complete with two polypropylene hose connections and two screw caps(Polypropylene hose connections with a Viton rubber seal for working temperatures up to max +110°C.) The 135º angle between the center line of the condenser and the receiver tubes allows the distillate to fall directly into the receiver tubes. This receiver can be used with short path style distilling heads. Complete receiver is supplied with distribution adapter, three 12mL receiver tubes, and six CG-110 stainless steel springs.

The 10/18 size is used with 10/18, 25mm immersion thermometers while the 10/30 is for use with 10/30, 75mm immersion thermometers. With inner joints on the bottom and sidearm at a 75¿ angle to one another.

Vacuum Trap, Removable Arms, Complete. Vacuum trap features removable arms to permit the trap to be easily disconnected for cleaning. The arms are made to permit clamping directly to the lattice and accept 5/8in I.D. vacuum hose. Trap and arms have 35/25 spherical joints for added flexibility while providing a leak-free seal. Supplied complete with one each of arm style “A” (180º), one each of arm style “B” (90º) and one each of arm style “C” (straight), and two CG-150-06 #35 stainless steel pinchclamps. The trap body is 2in (50mm) O.D. x 360mm long.

The Model 260/T disconnects all output power it the process temperature exceeds the entered temperature by a user-specified amount, or following recovery from a power failure. The outputs remain disconnected until manually reset. Over temperature condition is signalled by an indicator lamp and audible alarm. The Model 260/T has 1800 Watts of power which is sufficient for heating mantles up to 22L. Controller has the ability to display temperature without heating.
